The flannel goes underneath the wrap, directly against your skin, the way the photo above shows. Soak it, lay it over your navel, then fasten the cotton belly wrap over the top of it. The oil soaks into the cloth rather than into the wrap, so the wrap stays clean and there is soft cotton rather than a damp panel against you all night.
The zip pocket on the front of the wrap is for the hot pack, not the flannel.

How to use the organic cotton flannel, 2 pack
Fold a flannel down to about palm size and soak it with castor oil.
Lay it straight on your skin over your navel, then fasten the belly wrap over the top of it.
